Worthington Spotlight article: “Chamber Organizes Candidates Forums”
This is a very important race—the council we elect this November will be making decisions over the next four years that will be relevant to Project Community Park Worthington’s vision.*
There are seven candidates running for four seats: incumbents Rebecca Hermann and David Robinson, and challengers Joycelyn Dong, Edward Johnston, Glendon Pratt, Maria Ramirez, and Michael Sharvin. All seven candidates will be at Tuesday’s forum.
Current council members Katy Brewer and Beth Kowalczyk are not seeking re-election. Pete Bucher, Rachael Dorothy, and Amy Lloyd will be up for re-election in 2027.
Each candidate will give a two-minute opening statement and a two-minute closing statement. In between, they will answer written questions from the audience. The questions will be screened by the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus.
The following Monday, the consultant for Worthington’s Comprehensive Plan re-write, Jamie Green of Planning NEXT, will be at City Council to give an update on the process.
WHEN: Monday, September 15 at 7:00 PM
WHERE: Goorey Municipal Building, 6550 N. High St.
City Council information
The Comprehensive Plan is an important document the city uses for long-term planning on topics like land use, parks, housing, and transportation. This is a public meeting and we hope you will attend.
Look for an email from us soon with more information about the September 15 City Council meeting, and we hope to see you this Tuesday, September 9 at the Candidate Forum.
*PCPW advocates a mixed-use development at the former UMCH (United Methodist Children’s Home) site:
- 9-10 acres of commercial build-out along High Street
- 3-5 acres of residential (preferably focused on senior living)
- 18+ acres for contiguous public space (plus the undevelopable Tucker Creek area, about 7 acres).
Potential amenities: multi-use event facility, outdoor amphitheater, walking trails, athletic field, pollinator and community gardens, and a natural preserve along Tucker Creek suitable for educational purposes.
