To inspire an alternative mixed-use vision for the UMCH property, for the enjoyment and well-being of all, now and in perpetuity.

They’re asking: “Did we hear the community correctly?”

| PCPW Co-chairs |

Last June, many of you attended the standing-room-only event at the WEC, where we spent an evening taking a quiz on our phones, putting colored dots on maps, and filling out comment cards.

The Comprehensive Plan consultants have now produced three “Concept Maps,” for the UMCH area, which will be presented this Wednesday, November 12, 6:30 PM at Worthingway Middle School.  The maps will be presented by lead consultant Jamie Greene of Planning NEXT.

From the City’s announcement:

“Did we hear the community correctly? Rate and help refine draft principles based on previous community input. Then, help choose the look and feel for key places.”

In anticipation of the Nov. 12 meeting, last month our allies at WARD met with Jamie Greene. Several days ago, we at PCPW met with Mr. Greene. Today, Councilman Robinson sent a message to Mr. Greene and City Manager Stewart.

The repeated request was simple: that the PCPW vision map, or something very similar, be included among the concept maps at Wednesday’s event.

PCPW Vision

As of this writing, we have not been given any indication that our map, or anything remotely like it, will be included Wednesday night for public consideration.

So many of us gave feedback this summer as part of this same process – at the WEC or online – voicing our desire for this sort of vision. We also know that some members of the Comp Plan Community Committee have voiced their own concerns during their meetings that there is not enough park space in the concept maps. This vision has had broad, well-documented support in our community for years.

We need to keep showing up, and making our voices heard. Wednesday’s details:

WHAT: Community Choices (Round 2 of Public Input)
WHEN: Wednesday, November 12, 2025, 6:30-8:00 PM
WHERE: Worthingway Middle School, 6625 Guyer St.
RSVP: Registration encouraged but not required. Register here: https://worthingtontogether.org/get-involved/#Round2

They asked: “Did we hear the community correctly?”

What’s your answer?

Make your voice heard Wednesday evening, and please bring your family, neighbors, and friends.

Ever onward!

About Project Community Park Worthington:

We advocate a mixed-use development at the former UMCH (United Methodist Children’s Home) site:

  • 9-10 acres of commercial/office along High Street
  • 3-5 acres of residential (preferably focused on senior living)
  • 18+ acres for contiguous public space (plus the undevelopable Tucker Creek area, about 7 acres)

Potential amenities: multi-use event facility, outdoor amphitheater, walking trails, athletic field, pollinator and community gardens, and a natural preserve along Tucker Creek suitable for educational purposes.
